Centre for Blood Research at UBC
Communications Coordinator

The Centre for Blood Research (CBR) is an interdisciplinary biomedical research centre that aims to improve the health and well-being of patients by performing innovative research in blood and blood-related processes.

As the Communications Coordinator at the CBR, I manage a wide suite of both internal and external communications to enhance the reputation and image of the CBR to the public. This includes a wide variety of print, web, video, social and electronic media projects to promote the research, education, and outreach activities.

2019

TRIUMF
Communications Assistant

As Canada's particle accelerator centre, TRIUMF aims for Canada to lead in science, discovery, and innovation, improving lives and building a better world.

Some of my highlights as Communications Assistant include:

  • Leading public tour groups of 6+ people including visiting scholars, school groups and other organizations, to inspire wonder and provide an exciting first-hand experience of TRIUMF’s facilities and research

  • Curating content for our social media campaigns such as Dark Matter Day and our #CoopCovers series by taking and editing photos, interviewing researchers and students, writing and editing articles and copy, and posting across Instagram, Twitter and Facebook via Hootsuite

  • Graphic designing both large and small projects such as print banners and promotional event posters while adhering to brand guidelines

UBC Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries
Communications Assistant

UBC’s Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries (IOF) aims to lead the way to healthy and sustainable marine and freshwater systems through excellent research, inspirational education, and innovative societal engagement.

  • Writing science stories, monthly e-newsletters, copy for WordPress website, job postings, developing excellent written communication and time management skills

  • Planning and implementing social media campaigns for International Women’s Day and World Oceans Day, and analyzing audience engagement statistics from Twitter and Facebook to report the Institute’s audience growth over time

Blue Umbrella
Account and Market Planning Intern

Blue Umbrella is a leading RegTech provider of high-quality, high-volume due diligence directed towards mitigating FCPA and ABAC-related risks. I worked closely with the CEO, Senior Marketing Manager and regional Client Success Manager to grow our client base.

My tasks included:

  • Creating content for potential and existing clients like webinars and whitepapers by researching and writing about major topics in compliance, including AI in compliance and third-party compliance with limited resources

  • Assisting with both external and internal communications by creating e-blasts and automations with CampaignMonitor, preparing presentation slides for bimonthly global meetings, and creating writeups about marketing initiatives for our internal newsletter
